I Love A Good Debate

People have a tendency to think I get mad or angry with people who have different political, religious, or societal views than me. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have a lot of fun with my liberal and moderate friends. They rile me up, and I like to rile them up (even though they would never admit it).

It reminds me of a time several years ago where a couple we were befriending came over to visit one evening. The wives retreated into the dining room while us husbands enjoined in political conversation in the living area. As usual, my passion runnethed over and the projection of my voice traveled into the dining room. After they left, my wife was giggling. I asked what was so funny and she told me that when the other lady heard me speaking she leaned over to her and said, "My, your husband is angry." My wife touched the woman's arm and shook her head, saying, "No honey. That ain't mad. I've seen the man mad. This isn't even close."

I will be the first to admit that 'embellishment' is one of my forte's. I love to push the envelope and sometimes burst it open. I've been accused of annihilating people, excoriating them, dissecting them and brutalizing them....all verbally, of course. I've done no such thing. What I've done is entered into a debate with as many weapons as I can carry in order to win. I'm somewhat crazed in that respect. I don't enter into ANY game unless I plan and play to win. I never play for the sole enjoyment of the experience. Never. I suppose that is one reason why I was a well-above average chess player.

I'm a conservative capitalist. I'm a Christian. I have certain absolutes in my brain that cannot and will not be subverted into another line of thinking. I can afford to be close minded because where the fundamentals are concerned...I'm right. It is infuriating for some to debate with me, for I refuse to accept even outer fringes of liberalistic, socialistic, communal thought that bleeds from their ears.

I do not need the Democrats to tell me I need to be a member of the community. I already am. Not only that, I'm a contributor to the community on several levels and I have decided that my participation in this community has now maxed out. I want someone in office that can directly affect my life that will tell me they are in agreement. I am contributing enough.  However, I digress.

No matter what you believe, we are Americans. When 9/11 happened, a friend of mine asked why I was so upset. He said, "You don't like yankees, why are you so mad?" I responded, "Yankees are like my little brother. I can kill 'em, but nobody else can."

I am not angry with those who disagree with me. I just love a good debate and I play to win.
